Location
: The Desert National Park is situated in the west Indian state of Rajasthan
near Jaisalmer, 51kms South East of Udaipur. Area : The Desert National

March | About the park The
Desert National Park, an excellent example of the ecosystem of the Thar
Desert and its rich fauna is visited by tourists from all across the world. For
observing wildlife in the Desert National Park, the Sudashri forest post is the
most ideal place. The terrain of the park consists of sand dunes (form less than
20 percent of the Park), craggy rocks, pavements and compact salt lake bottoms,
intermedial areas and fixed dunes. Wildlife

Fauna : There
are various animals found in the park namely tiger, leopard, sambar, blue bull,
chital, chinkara, hyena, jackal, fox, caracal, jungle cat, ratel, sloth bear,
languor and wildboard blackbuck, chinkara, wolf, Indian fox, desert fox, hare
and desert cat. Birds : The Desert National
Park has a vivid and spectacular bird life and offers more than 300 species of
birds that include both domestic and migratory. The Great Indian bustard is a
magnificent bird found in relatively fair numbers here which migrates locally
in different seasons. The region is a retreat for migratory and resident birds
of the desert. One can spot many eagles, harriers, falcons, buzzards, kestrel
and vultures. Short- toed eagles, tawny eagles, spotted eagles, lagger falcons
and kestrels are the commonest of these. Sandgrouse are spotted near small ponds
or lakes. How to Reach The
nearest airport from The Park is the Jodhpur airport. The nearest railhead is
Jaisalmer which connects it to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Agra and Jaipur. Besides
these there are daily buses from Jaisalmer. Nearby
Attractions Jodhpur city is just 40 km away  |
